Monday, 19 October 2026 — for savers, a steady plan can matter more than perfect timing.

The key news: On Sunday, Iraqi 21K gold sold for 960,000 dinars a mithqal in Baghdad’s wholesale market, and shops bought it back at 956,000. Gulf 21K sold at 990,000. The dollar closed at 168,500 dinars per $100 in Baghdad.

What it means for savers: Prices are high and moving with both gold and the dollar. Buying a small, fixed amount each month spreads your entry price over many months instead of betting on one day.

Example: Saving 1,000,000 dinars a month buys about 1.04 mithqal (about 5.2 g) of Iraqi 21K at 960,000 a mithqal. If you sold it back the same day at 956,000, you would get about 4,000 dinars less per mithqal, a gap of about 0.4%, before any workmanship charges.

Advice for savers: Choose plain, low-workmanship pieces or coins for savings, because workmanship is hard to get back when you sell. Keep every receipt and buy from the same trusted shop.

The honest caution: Gold can fall in dinar terms if world prices drop or the dollar weakens in Baghdad. Save only from money you can set aside, and never borrow to buy gold.
