Baghdad, 23 October 2026. For families who save in gold, this week’s dip is worth a closer look.
The key news: world gold is near $4,016 an ounce, down about 3.5% this week, its steepest weekly fall in more than four months. Higher oil prices and the chance of another US rate hike in December have cooled the market.
What it means for Al-Fahad Al-Dhahabi savers: a lower gold price means each saving instalment buys a little more metal. For people who save a fixed amount every month, dips are part of the plan, not a reason to panic.
Example (metal value only): at the Baghdad market rate of about 1,695 dinars per dollar, one million dinars buys about 4.57 grams of 24K gold metal today. Before this week’s fall, the same amount bought about 4.41 grams, an extra 0.16 grams now.
Advice for savers: choose a fixed monthly amount you can comfortably set aside, buy small 24K bars or plain 21K pieces with low making charges, and keep receipts and certificates safe.
The honest caution: gold can fall further, and the dinar can move too. Saving in gold works best over years, not weeks. Keep an emergency cash reserve, and never borrow to buy gold.
