Al-Fahad Al-Dhahabi presents its brief for Thursday, October 8, 2026.
What happened: The official dollar rate moved from 1,310 to 1,500 dinars, and to 1,520 for the public at banks.
Example, 10 million dinars in cash savings:
- At 1,310, that was worth about $7,634.
- At 1,520, it is worth about $6,579.
The family lost about $1,055 of value without spending anything.
Example, 10 mithqal of 21K gold:
- On September 30: about $6,090, or roughly 9.6 million dinars at that week’s market rate.
- Today: about $6,020, or roughly 10.07 million dinars at today’s market rate.
In dollars the gold barely moved. In dinars it gained about 5% in one week.
The lesson: Saving part of your money in gold protects you when the dinar weakens. Choose plain bangles, liras and small bars with low making charges, and buy small amounts regularly.
The honest caution: Gold also falls; it is down about 5.7% in dollars this month. Gold is protection, not a guarantee. Keep it as part of your savings, never all of it, and never borrow to buy.
Al-Fahad Al-Dhahabi — strong like the fahad, honest like gold.
