Al-Fahad Al-Dhahabi presents its brief for Wednesday, September 30, 2026. Happy Sovereignty Day to all Iraqis.
The rumour: Online forums claim the dinar will revalue now that the last US troops have left.
The facts: The Central Bank of Iraq set the official rate at 1,310 dinars per dollar in February 2023, and it has not changed since, including throughout this year’s war. Analysts agree the dinar will not revalue because troops have left. On the market, the dollar actually rose this week to about 158,000 dinars per $100.
What this means for your savings: Don’t make financial decisions based on rumours. Gold is priced in dollars worldwide, so it does not depend on the dinar. Today it is about 6% cheaper than at the start of September.
How to save in gold wisely: Choose plain bangles, liras and small bars with low making charges. Buy small amounts regularly. Keep receipts and certificates safe.
The honest caution: Gold can fall as well as rise, as this month shows. Keep it as part of your savings, not all of it, and never borrow to buy.
